Portugal’s second Regional Nodes workshop takes place

The second in the series of Regional Nodes workshops in the Montado region of Portugal took place on 13 February 2025 and, similarly to the first one, was conducted over four hours dedicated in the morning, wrapping up with a shared lunch where participants can continue their discussions.

The two main goals of the day were to validate the results from the first workshop (particularly regarding key drivers for soil health) and to identify the knowledge gaps related to the prioritised Mission Soil objectives for the Montado system (erosion prevention, soil organic carbon stocks, and nature conservation of soil biodiversity).

Discussion extended to linking soil regeneration with Mértola’s broader territorial strategy, focusing on mapping both specific and generalised soil issues. Focusing on the distinction between knowledge gaps and existing conditions of the identification of needed actions proved to be an important point.
