09 Feb 2024

On 17 January 2024, SOLO's project partner Lund University hosted the first Soil Week event in Sweden in cooperation with LU Land. The seminar, which covered the topic of urban densification and ecosystem services, was held online and was attended by 85 participants from various fields such as public administrators, scientists, practitioners and students.

The seminar consisted of two presentations by speakers Peter Olsson, researcher at the Centre for Environmental and Climate Science, Lund University and Christel Carlsson, research coordinator at Swedish Geotechnical Institute (SGI), with Katarina Hedlund (Lund University) serving as moderator. The presentations covered the topics of study results and knowledge gaps on urban soil and ecosystem services, with examples from e.g. Malmö, Sweden and Geokalkyl - a tool that is under development by SGI to improve the consideration of soil and other environmental factors in city planning.

The event was a part of the Soil Weeks organised by SOLO's partners throughout European countries.
