Soil Week: Workshop in Hungary tackles the issues of soil contamination and monitoring

On 14 December 2023, Soils for Europe’s partner Institute of Advanced Studies Kőszeg (iASK) organised a workshop within the scope of the project’s Soil Weeks, which focused on soil monitoring and soil contamination. The event, hosted by the Dome of the Ministry of Agriculture and co-organised by EJP SOIL, was attended by around 25 participants, such as researchers and academics.

The workshop topics were related to the implementation plan of the EU Soil Policy Plans, particularly the Community Soil Action Plan under the European Green Agreement. The tasks of the Soil Mission include among other things, the development of a framework and tools to prepare for sustainable and climate-smart soil use and management and the restoration and maintenance of soil health.

The focus of the workshop was the Soil Mission including the development of a framework and tools to prepare for sustainable and climate-smart soil use and management and the restoration and maintenance of soil health. iASK presented the Soils for Europe project and the Soil Pollution and Restoration Think Tank which is linked to the EU Action Plan on Pollution-Free Air, Water and Soil.

The event further included sessions from the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Research, Development and Innovation Office of the International Department, HUN-REN ATK Institute of Soil Science, HUN-REN ATK Soil Science Institute, HUN-REN ATK Soil Biology Institute and the National Public Health Centre (NNGYK).
