Think Tank webinar series: Recap of the Soil Erosion Prevention TT event
On April 15th, the Soil Erosion Prevention Think Tank (TT) hosted its webinar as a part of a series of events, each hosted by a different SOLO TT. The session was integrated into the MED as 4as, a regular seminar series initiative organised by the Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development (MED) research center at the University of Évora, Portugal.
The hybrid event took place simultaneously in the conference room at the Mitra Campus (University of Évora) and online, bringing together 21 participants. There were two speakers from Évora’s SOLO team who presented during the session dedicated to sharing scientific knowledge on soil erosion prevention and innovation at the European scale:

Dr. Maria Helena Guimarães (MED) |
The SOLO Initiative and the Erosion Prevention TT |
The presentation introduced the SOLO project and the structures of the Think Tanks (TT) approach. Dr. Guimarães highlighted the role of the TT in co-constructing transdisciplinary roadmaps for soil research and innovation in Europe, introducing the Erosion Prevention TT. |

The Erosion Prevention Roadmap: from gaps to actions |
The second presentation detailed the roadmap developed within the Erosion Prevention Think Tank, including the identification and prioritisation of knowledge gaps, actions, and challenges in preventing soil erosion. |
During the event, the contribution of about 20 stakeholders to the Soil Erosion Roadmap* was highlighted.
The attendees commented on the relevance of the roadmap implementation for soil health enhancement. In the Q&A session, questions were raised regarding how well the roadmap aligns with the context-specific diverse regions across the EU, as well as the current lack of specialised and dedicated advisory services available for farmers and practitioners.
* The Roadmap is a part of the further developed Outlook 2025: Soil Health R&I Knowledge Gaps, which systematises key knowledge gaps, proposed actions, and constraints to reduce soil erosion at the European scale.
